Briefly describe your tentative APP or how you think you might incorporate media literacy into the work that you do with teachers and/or students.
Tentative Title: "Our Planet Earth"
Target Audience: 8th Grade Biology students
Curriculum Goals:
To re-structure Megan's current Ecology/Environmental unit to include readings & video clips from the "Global Warming" and "Chemicals in the Environment" curriculum guides.
The unit will culminate in a student project. Students will use video flip cameras to create a video about what our school district can/should change in response to what they have learned about human impact on the environment. The target audience will be the Board of Education (pending principal's approval).
Media Literacy Goals:
To introduce students to core knowledge, vocabulary & history of global warming.
To teach students how to critically analyze media sources including video clips, TV, & print sources.
To give students the opportunity to create their own media piece (video, brochure, powerpoint, prezi, or wordle) to share what they have learned with a target audience.
Other Goals:
Students will be able to participate, debate, and share opinions RESPECTFULLY in the classroom setting.
Give students an awareness of their personal impact on the planet (i.e. carbon footprint)
Proposed Activities:
Students will evaluate media from various sources (thanks to the LookSharp curriculum).
Assessment/Evaluation (how will you know your APP works to meet your goals?):
This process will be evaluated by the finished product produced by students.
